Gadwal Fort

Gadwal Fort

The fort is located on National Highway 7, between Hyderabad and Kurnool.

It is about 16 kilometres from Erravelli Junction.

The Gadwal ruler, Pedda Soma Bhupaludu was responsible for getting the Gadwal Fort constructed in the 17th century.

Its distinctive high walls and moats made the fort impregnable.

Even 300 years after it was constructed, the fort is still extremely imposing and strong.

The main deities, Sri Chennakesava Swamy Temple, Sri Venugopala Swamy Temple, Sri Ramalayam and Water Body of the Gadwal rulers are housed inside the fort.

The fort also houses 32-foot long cannon, which Sri Pedda Soma Bhupala brought back after defeating the Nawab of Kurnool in a battle.
