Kailasanathar temple is one of the oldest temples in Kanchipuram. Main deity Kailasanathar of this temple is Lord shiva in linga form. The temple is located on the western kanchipuram and famous for artistic sculpture. We can see plenty of sculpture work on and around the temple. Kailasanathar temple stood one of the architecture wonder in Indian history. Devotees can see 58 different best sculpted Shiva shrines around the temple.
HISTORY OF KAILASANATHAR TEMPLE :
The temple construction was stated in the year 685 AD by pallava king Rajashimha and completed around 705 AD. Many expert sculptures and other workers participated in building up the great temple. One the specialty of the temple is the sand stone compound. In the corridor around the temple we can see perfect and fine sculpted shrines of lord Shiva. The temple is very much famous for outstanding limestone art and sculpture.
SPECIALTY OF THE TEMPLE :
According to ancient Indian mythology it is believed that Romasamaharshi penance Lord Shiva for salvation after getting suggestion from his guru sage Agastya. Lord shiva appeared to Sage romasa and said that the Circumambulatory passage inside the kailasanathar temple grants salvation for human beings. Still many devotees enter into the narrow passage behind the Shiva linga to get salvation.Devotees should enter form the left side of the passage and need to crawl around the passage and exits from right side.
Kanchi Kailasanathar temple is one the nice kailasakshetras. The 9 kailasastalas represents all the nine planets and kailasanathar temple represents the planet ketu. By visiting this temple horoscopic defects caused by ketu planet will solved.
