Chittoor[1] also known as Chittur) is a municipal corporation and district headquarters located in the Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located on the NH 4 linking major metropolitan cities Bangalore and Chennai. The city has a population of 353,766 and that of the agglomeration is 389,332. (Revised estimate)(2011 census)

Chittoor city lies on the banks of Ponnai River at the southernmost part of Andhra Pradesh state. Chittoor is located at the junction of national highway 4 and national highway 18 between Bangalore and Chennai. The famous Tirupati temple and Kanipakam Vinayaka Temple is located close to the city. Chittoor's culture is the mix of Telugu Andhra Pradesh and Tamilian Tamil Nadu cultures as this city lies in a tri-state junction.

Though Telugu is the official language, Tamil language is widely spoken in Chittoor town and nearby villages. Chittoor has a population of 353,766[2] and has a sex ratio of 1000:1002 as compared to a ratio of 1000:992 in the state, as of 2011 census.[3] The literacy rate of the City is 90.60%.[4] Chittoor was upgraded as municipal corporation in 2011. Red Cross Street is one of the widest, Greenary Road in Chittoor[5]

Chittoor is the district capital and houses many of district level government institutions. Chittoor is predominantly an agro-market place and a major market for mango, grain, sugarcane, and peanut. Other industries include oilseed, poultry and milk. There is a lot of scope to develop and Investors also waiting for investment at Chittoor. But last 25 years there is no development, because of local politics.
