The small village of Nandikonda is located along the banks of River Krishna, close to Nagarjuna Sagar.
Nandikonda is situated near Vijayapuri Township, which used to be part of the Ikshvaku Dynasty.
The village came into limelight after many ancient Buddhist structures, such as pillared halls and monasteries were unearthed.
The relics unearthed during the excavations are housed in the Museum of Central Archeological Department.
There are even ruins of a fort belonging to the Ikshvaku Dynasty.
The citadel with its gates, water trenches and strong fortifications and a rectangular-shaped stadium were unearthed during an archeological excavation.
The items found here are on exhibition at the Museum.
