Nagarjuna Sagar
Nagarjuna Sagar has the distinction of being the world's tallest masonry dam.
The waters from the dam are used to irrigate more than 10 lakh acres of fertile agricultural land in the surroundings.
Located about 150 kilometres from Hyderabad, Nagarjuna Sagar also has been instrumental in creating a man-made lake.
A floating in the middle of the lake like a beautiful vision is the scenic island of Nagarjunakonda.
The island houses a museum, which displays the ancient Buddhist structures and relics that were unearthed during the construction of the dam.
Along the banks of the reservoir, one can see ruins of a once Buddhist settlement, such as stupas, viharas, sacrificial altar and monasteries, which were reconstructed.
