Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA)

ERA disrupts and defeats the shaped charge jet of anti-tank missile warheads effectively thus reducing its penetrating capability.

 HEMRL developed an ERA capable of defeating latest anti tank missile warheads .

 The ERA developed is light weight, cost effective and can be mounted at various parts of the tank to increase the protection level. 

The total weight penalty on account of mounting of ERA panels on T-72 tank is less than 1.5 ton. 

ERA mounted on T-72 tank can successfully afford adequate protection to tank from Milan warhead and other tank ammunition 125 mm HEAT, 105 mm APDS and HESH . 

It has been accepted for induction into Service and T-72 tanks are being up armed with this ERA.

 Productionisation of ERA on the basis of HEMRL technology has since commenced at Ordnance factories to meet the requirements of Army.
