Leader of the Opposition
The leader of the opposition is an important functionary of the House. He is given the status of minister in recognition of his importance. The Leader of the largest recognized Opposition Party is generally recognized as the Leader of the Opposition. He raises matters of public importance and demands for detailed discussions on them. He extends his cooperation to the Speaker in conducting the business of the House.
The Leader of Opposition is provided a seat in the front row, a room in the Assembly with Secretarial and other facilities. The Leader of the Opposition also enjoys certain privileges on ceremonial occasions, viz (i) escorting the Speaker-elect to the rostrum; and (ii) seat in the front row at the time of Address by the Governor to both the Houses.
Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu - Leader of Opposition
Nara Chandrababu Naidu is the President of Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He was also the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh during 1995-2004. Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu was born on April 20, 1951 in the Naravaripally village of Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. He did his Masters in Economics from the Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati.
Mr. Naidu was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1978 from the Chandragiri constituency in Chittoor district. He subsequently became a Minister and held the portfolios of Archives, Cinematography, Technical Education, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Public Libraries and Minor Irrigation between 1980 and 1983.
