Ananthpura Lake temple :
Ananthpura Lake temple is the only lake temple in Kerala and is the moolasthanam (original abode) of Anandapadmanabha, the deity of Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple, Thiruvananthapuram.
This ancient lake temple of Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy is located at Ananthapu-ra at Kerala state in South India. the temple is very close to kasaragod town in North Kerala .
An aura of peace and sanctity permeates the whole region . In the midst of a vast grassland, the temple is placed at the centre of a rectangular lake.
This placement of the temple symbolises Lord Vishnu the all pervading and timeless supreme reality, resting on the serpent Anantha representing the endless phenomenon of time and floating in the Ksheera Sagara the ocean of milk, representing the endless energy of creation, The unique feature of the original idols is that they are not made of any conventional materials like stone, metal or wood, instead they are made of a combination of more than 40 items known as kadu sarkara yogam .
Today this combination is known to only handful of Artisans.
The Temple Crocodile : A very unusual phenomenon of this temple lake is the presence of a single crocodile .
Aged people living in the area say that this is the third crocodile that they have seen in their lifetime .
The legend has that when one crocodile dies another appears and this continues to be an unexplained phenomenon. There is no other waterbody nearby where crocodiles exist.
