Chilkur:

The peaceful and quiet unassuming village of Chilkur is about 25 kilometres from Hyderabad.

Although similar to any rural village in Andhra Pradesh, this village has gained prominence amongst pilgrims because of the presence of the Chilkur Balaji Temple.

The temple, also known as Visa Temple, is very popular amongst devotees looking to go abroad for work and studies.

The serene and divine temple is located on the banks of Osman Sagar Lake, just off the road to Vikarabad.

Based on the architecture of the temple, it has been estimated that the temple was constructed about a 500 years ago, making it the oldest temple in Telangana region.

The village also is home to the Mrugavani National Park.

The Park is spread over an area of 700 acres.

The Park has more than 600 different types of plant species and is thriving with wildlife, including the Indian hare, forest cat, Indian rat snake, Russell’s viper, cheetal, civet and flower pecker.
