Amaravati

Amaravati is a small town located on the banks of the river Krishna in the Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh. The town is popular for its Amareshwara Amaravati Temple. The holy temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Amravati, which is also called as Dhanyakataka or Dharanikota was once the location of an excellent Buddhist Stupa which was built in the glorious times of India. The place also served as the capital of Satavahanas, the generous Andhra kings who dominated from the 2nd century BC to the third century cerium, during the downfall of Mauryan empire.

The holy shrine, Amareshwara Temple, dedicated to the powerful lord Shiva homes 15 feet white marble Shiva idol. The gopurams, on the four sides of the Amaravati temple are done in Dravidian architectural style. According to the Hindu mythology, Amareshwara, the form of lord Shiva in the temple, keeps the power of destroying the universe. The Amareswara Swamy temple is found on little hilly clearing which is called the Koruna Shaila in the town of Amaravati, which is located at a distance of fifteen miles from Guntur. The nearest city to this temple is Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. The Amaravati temple is one among the 5 Panorama temples of Andhra Pradesh dedicated to Lord Shiva. There are four other Panorama temples, the other temples are Kumararama, Ksheerarama and Bheemarama and Draksharama. The insides of the temple are yet another indication of the great Indian heritage and history. The walls of the temple are filled with inscriptions that depict a lot of information about the kings who ruled the area.  The people around the town of Amaravati also believe that the temple was constructed to establish peace after a mass execution of 1000 violent tribesman who were scheming against the king in an evil carnival organized to capture them.
