RailTel being a public Corporation have responsibility to maximize shareholder profits and at the same time meeting the social expectations by serving the interests of the society through carrying out CSR activities in the areas where it can play important role in bringing valuable change for the society. The principle for RailTel has been to carry out CSR activities in line with its vision statement to develop knowledge society in the country.
During the year 12-13, RailTel took up CSR project for creating IT infrastructure at 36 institutions situated in 20 panchayats across 7 States/UT to provide broadband enabled IT centers enabling e-health, e-education for rural population through local institutions like Primary schools & Primary health centers. Under the initiative, RailTel provided IT infrastructure at each of these centers fully equipped with high speed broadband connectivity, 4 nos. of multimedia desktops, 42” LCD TV equipped with enterprise webcam and speakers, solar panels with UPS for power back up, etc.
The primary health centres can be further connected to speciality hospitals to provide initial medical consultancy and counselling to the rural population for further medical attention. This infrastructure shall also enable students to access various e-education content and information. To further the usability of the infrastructure for sustainable benefits over the years to the local population, RailTel is also in the process of providing vocational training programs in partnership with NGOs/tranining institutions equipped with e-classroom and training facilities in the field of:
1. Electrical jobs
2. Welding
3. Electronics card repairing
4. Machine tools
5. Carpentary, etc
