Samarlakota

The town of Samarlakota is about 64 kilometres from Rajahmundry and is home to the Sri Chalukya Kumararama Sri Bhimeswaraswamy Temple.

The temple is dedicated to one of the forms of Lord Shiva and that is why the festival of Maha Shivarathri is celebrated at this temple with a lot of fervour.

This temple's construction began in 892 during the reign of the Chalukyas and was completed in 922 AD.

The shivalinga in the temple is made from limestone and stands 14 feet high. The temple is constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture.

The construction of the temple has withstood the ravages of time and is still in an outstanding condition.
