Nagarjunasagar Buddhavanam Project

Andhra Pradesh is one of the most popular states in India in terms of domestic tourist inflow. Sample this: 153.1 million domestic tourists visited the state in 2011. With its long coastline, the state is endowed with rich heritage precincts, pristine beaches, enthralling combination of sea and hillocks and picturesque landscape.

The government of India and government of Andhra Pradesh have identified Visakhapatnam and Nagarjuna Sagar among the major tourist destinations because of their tourism potential and connectivity. A large number of mega infrastructure projects are on pipeline in the state that will be developed through the public private partnership route.

Already, the state government has invited global RFQs (Request For Quotation) and EoI (Expression of Interest) from eligible and interested developers for implementing some of the mega tourism projects on a PPP basis.

Some of these mega projects to be developed through PPP mode are:

1) The state government proposes to develop a tourism park. This park is proposed to be developed in 150 acres of prime location at Madhurawada, Vishakhapatnam. The developer will have an option to propose any tourism concept (single or multiple themes) with international standards, says the website. The indicative project components include large multi theme park, with a combination of leisure, entertainment and adventure components, international standard golf course, club and academy, international convention centre with resorts and hospitality training campus.

2) Another project is an “Arogyadham” which is an integrated Indian traditional wellness and health city proposed in 20 acres at Madhurawada, Vishakhapatnam. The city offers enchanting view of the sea and its surroundings. Indicative project components include Ayurvedic Centre with therapies and preventive treatments, naturopathy, unani, siddha etc., research and training institute, wellness centre, spa and resorts, herbal garden, meditation halls, walking track, swimming pool, etc.

3) The state government also plans to develop a theme park called Wonders of the World in 60 acres at prime location of Endada, Vishakhapatnam with National Highway connectivity. The indicative project components of the theme park include replicas/miniatures of Seven Wonders of the World and Seven Wonders of Visakhapatnam, tourist train, cable car etc., recreation, entertainment such as retail streets (theme based plaza’s/bazaar), exhibition halls, children entertainment etc.

4) The state government also plans to develop a Science and Entertainment City in 45 acres of prime land at Kapuluppada, Vishakhapatnam (adjacent to famous Buddhist site) and the indicative project components include: science pavilion such as frontier techno expo (photonics, nanotechnology, science fiction etc.), planet exhibition, space expo, energy park, 3D/4D theatre etc. It will also include recreational zone such as historic and pre-historic parks, state-of-art theme park, MICE Centre, conference halls, resorts, food courts etc.



5) A world class theme park is proposed in 640 acres of land, located near Nagarjuna Sagar dam. Prominent Buddhist centre (Nagarjuna Konda) of 3rd century AD, Ethipotala water falls and Buddhavanam project are in the vicinity to the site. Some of the indicative project components are amusement/theme park, theme gardens (tropical gardens, fruit orchard, botanical garden, rock garden etc.) and resorts and cottages.
