Bhimesvara and Somesvara temple :

Bhimesvara and Somesvara temple is also located in the western part of the Godavari district.

This temple has a tall Shiva Lingam which is of height 1.52 m.

The festival Shivaratri is celebrated in the traditional manner every once in a year. One of the evils named Tharakasura was said to be having the “Amruthalingam” which makes him immortal and he used to create severe problems to the Gods.

So by the solution of Kumara Swami, Tharakasura was able to give away it to the Kumara Swami.

During this it is said that five pieces of the Amruthalingam fell on different places and these are called Pancharamas.

 Those places are Bhimavaram, Palacol, Amaravathi, Draksharamam and Samalakota
