The Indian Board of Alternative Medicines is the nation's foremost organisation in the field of alternative medicines with a membership in excess of 1,00,000 practitioners and 110 affiliated centres spread across the length and breadth of the nation.
True to its motto, "Indigenous Roots, Global Pursuits", the Board has brought alternative medicines to the attention of the masses and trained thousands of students in India and abroad through its various courses in the different disciplines of alternative medicines such as acupressure, acupuncture, aromatherapy, electro homeopathy, biochemic medicine, reiki, etc. to further facilitate the study of alternative medicines and provide a high standard of educational programmes.
The Board also regularly organises workshops on the different alternative therapies for large corporations and companies such as BHEL, TISCO, JINDAL and HINDALCO to name but a few.
Blessed with a distinguished panel of Hony. Patrons and Advisors from all over the world, the Board has close links with a number of renowned international organisations in the field of alternative medicines. It is affiliated to over fifty reputed organisations worldwide.
Under the stewardship of Dr. Suresh Kumar Agarwal, its Founder President, the Board has developed into a multifaceted organisation with a strong social conscience. It is a signatory to the Abolition 2000 Statement issued by the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation (designated as a Peace Messenger Organisation by the UN) and the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985). It is also a signatory to the "We the People's Initiative" of Pathways to Peace and the Hague Appeal for Peace. The Board regularly observes occasions such as World Health Day, World AIDS Day, World Environment Day, World Peace Day, World Women's Day, etc. besides organising health camps and charitable clinics. It has been active in rendering relief to those affected by natural calamities and contributes generously to various welfare funds for flood, famine and drought victims and the nation's armed forces.
A highlight and eagerly awaited event of the Board are its annual international conferences of which it has thus far successfully organised Twenty Three International Conferences. These events have received the moral support of international luminaries such as Mother Teresa, the Dalai Lama, Rev. Desmond Tutu, Queen Elizabeth and UN Secretary Generals to mention but a few. The Board's conferences have been widely acclaimed and attended by Mother Teresa, Union and State Ministers, Chief Justices, Judges and Diplomats besides leading lights in the field of health and medicine from over fifty countries worldwide.
