Sri Someshwara Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple

Palakurthi mandal which is located at a distance of 50 kilometers from Warangal city of the Telangana region is famous for its affluent historical value. Palakurthi is easily accessible by road. The mandal is known to be the birthplace of many distinct poets and revolutionaries who have contributed a lot for the country. The place is also known as the land of several famous temples. One of the famous temples in Palakurthi is the Sri Someshwara Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple.

The famous temple is perched on a beautiful hillock which is at a height of 120 metres. It is also very famous for its unique structure and appealing location. The legend that led to the construction of the Someshwara Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple, says that Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, the 2 powerful gods of the great Hindu Trinity, had incarnated in 2 caves that were formed on the hillock. The two caves stand side by side. Thus the Someshwara Temple came to existence in these caves. The temple is therefore dedicated to both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu who takes the form of Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy in the Palakurthi temple. And the hills surrounding this temple form a naturally paved path for the devotees to circle the holy shrine. This path is called the Pradakshina Path. The entrance to the temple is guarded by two dwarapalikas which are similar to Lord Shiva in Nataraj posture. The Dwarapalikas are done in black stone and we can see that they hold the damarukam or hand drum in one hand. The Palakurthi mandal is named after the Telugu poet Palkuriki Somanathudu. The place is a famous citadel of Veerashaivisim. The sect of Veerashaivism, which is a 6000 year old faith that had flourished extensively in Telangana and Karnataka and a few states of Maharashtra, is one of the most liberal cults of Hinduism. For the same reason, Palakurthi draws a lot of devotees belonging to the Veerashaiva sect. The temple is thronged by scores of devotees during the Maha Shiv Ratri festival.
