Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve

This is the largest tiger reserve in India. The Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve also serves as one of the popular wildlife sanctuaries in the country. Many tourists and people seeking some real adventure feel this is the most preferable place to quench their thirst for having an adrenaline rush. A visit to Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve means getting into the life of forest that was almost given up until a few years ago. One visit to this place and it is like looking into the eyes of the wild beast residing in the forest. The reserve is so vast that it is not possible to see the entire forest at one go.

The sanctuary lies in the catchment area of the River Krishna. Adding to the exquisiteness of the sanctuary is that the reserve is surrounded by the Nallamala Hills on the eastern and southern side while the River Krishna adds as a silver lining on the other side.

The Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve lies in the area of tropical dry and deciduous forest. Ziziphus xylopyrus, Cissus vitiginea, Niebuhria apetala and Pterolobium indicum are some of the plants of the region. The sanctuary has a wide range of fauna which includes bonnet macaque, tiger, leopard, langur, wild dog, wolf, jackal, jungle cat, sloth bear, giant flying squirrel, smooth-coated otter, Bengal fox, striped hyena, wild boar, palm civet, Indian muntjac, sambar, Indian spotted chevrotain, spotted deer, four-horned antelope, blackbuck, nilgai, Indian pangolin, Indian porcupine, chinkara and Indian tree shrew.
