Andhra Pradesh Tourism’s Mega Food Festival



Tourism is an industry that has given new scope and dimension to how the famous and special places are showcased; attracting good number of visitors, that inturn boosts the popularity of these places. Apart from tourist destinations, the local food, customs, culture and several other aspects are also considered as noteworthy aspects that can serve as a visual delight to visitors. In this regard, marking the occasion of World Tourism Day, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation is organizing a mega food and shopping festival at Berm Park and Bhavani Island, Vijayawada.

The food of Andhra Pradesh is unique and occupies a special place among the cuisines of India. Right from the homemade desserts, breakfast, rice items, vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, there is a unique identity for these dishes that are popular all over. The food festival being organized in Vijayawada celebrates the exquisite cuisine of Andhra Pradesh.

Food recipes of Andhra are renowned for their spicy flavor. Andhra cooking contains good proportion of spices. Some of the famous Andhra cuisines include pickles, chutneys and desserts. Just like how each state of India is known for its own specialty, food from AP is quite popular for the rich seasoning and variety. Although the taste changes from one place to other due to the influence of other customs, the main elements of Andhra food are mainly based on rice.

 Rice is the staple diet of AP since rice is produced here in large quantities. Idli, dosa, vada and uttapam are made from rice, which is consumed as part of daily diet. The food festivals offers a wide variety of items like sada dosa, masala dosa, rava dosa, rava idli, masala idle etc. There are many rice varieties, cooked with a rich mix of spices, vegetables and meat. Pesarattu gives the feeling of Upma eaten along with chutney.   Tamarind rice is also quite famous.

Most of the Andhra food use cinnamon and black pepper, which is seasoned, with many herbs while these curries are served hot. The food festival is also a chance to taste some instant as well as preserved pickles made from garlic, chilly, ginger and other vegetables. These items are very aromatic, tasty, and spicy.
