on western bank of Vasista Godavari, one of the deltaic branch of river Godavari prior to its entry into the sea. The port location can be about 6-12 km inside the river from confluence with sea. This location is about 156 nautical miles southwest of Viskhapatnam. The port is well connected with road and rail network. The nearest Airport is Gannavaram.
No Port facilities exist for handling of cargo. Lighterage facilities exist for handling cargo at Antervedi on opposite side of river, overlooking the sea. Limited back up area is available at this port. Additional land can be acquired as needed.
This port has potential of getting cargo such as fertilizer, rice, sugar, rice bran, cement and coal etc., to service hinterland after creation of the port and navigational facilities. This port can become a lighterage port. The investment on development and maintenance of channel (construction of breakwater and with dredging) for seagoing barges, creation of port facilities and providing of barges for lighterage operation can attract the cargo at this port.
At present no cargo is handled at this port. This port is a Greenfield Port and the Government of Andhra Pradesh is interested to develop this port on BOOT basis.
