East Godavari district Buddha Sites

Adurru is located on the western bank of the Vainetaya branch of Godavari river which is around 9.5 km from sea. The village is quiet close to Nagaram and is a part of the east Razole taluk of East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh.

The place is famous for a mound which the localites call Dubaraju Gudi. Excavations carried out in the year 1953 brought to surface a mahastupa which measures 17 feet in diameter. A raised platform surrounds it all around. The excavations also revealed shreds of jars, troughs, dishes and bowls of red and kaolin. The excavation site covers an area of 2.04 acres and makes for a worthwhile visit during your Buddhist trip to Andhra Pradesh.

Ghantasala : Ghantasala is located in the Divi taluk of Krishna district, around 21 km from Machilipatnam. Worthseeing here are the remains of the Buddhist stupa and sculptural slabs that were discovered in 1919-20. A site museum here displays a collection of Buddhist statues and other lime stone panels depicting the main events of the Lord Buddha.

Amlapuram : At a distance of around 30 km, this small town of village is a nature lover’s delight. There are lush fields, coconut groves, green palms criss - crossed by small canals. The prime attractions of this place is the R.D.O's office building which is constructed in the style of parliament. Apart from this, the Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swami Devastanam is quiet famous with visiting people.

Ainavilli : Ainavilli is located 14 km from Amalapuram and is famous for the "Siddi Vinayaka Temple" .The "Kshetra Purana" of this place reveals that prior to performing the Daksha Yagna, Daksha Prajapati was supposed to perform puja of Vinayaka at this place for its successful completion.

By Air - The airports at Hyderabad and Vizag are the closest airport from Adurru.

By Rail - The nearest railway station from Adurru is located in Rajahumundry, around 130 km away.
