Andhra Chirstian College of Law

A.C. College of Law is the second offspring of A.C. College, Guntur, which was established in the year 1885. A.C. College secured affiliation for the LL.B., Degree Course in 1974 and thus the Department of Law was established in A.C. College.

In pursuance of the rules of the Bar Council of India, the orders of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the Proceedings of the Director of Higher Education and the Syndicate of the c, the Management of A.C. College decided to separate the Department of Law from A.C. College and constituted it into an independent college of Law under the name and style “Andhra Christian College of Law” with effect from 1.4.1982.

AIMS AND AMBITIONS:

This is the first Christian College of Law in our country. This is an Institution run by the Christian Religious minority Community members, belonging to the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church. Most of the members of our Church belong to the downtrodden, backward and poorer sections of our society. Christianity believes that the welfare of a country depends upon the welfare of the totality of its population. Therefore, our Church considers it as imperative to strive for the up-liftment of the undeveloped and the underdeveloped people of our society. The Church also believes that social emancipation is possible only through education. Education is an instrument of social change and legal education is the most powerful and the most efficacious instrument of social change and economic emancipation of our society. The undeveloped and the under developed, the illiterate and the ignorant, the poorer and the stigmatized sections of our society should be liberated from their disabilities, otherwise, our beloved country can never prosper. With a holy and pious intention of imparting legal education to the down trodden people and equipping them with strength and courage to shoulder the responsibility of democratic citizenship was this first Christian College of Law in India established, and this Institution will strive to reach the horizons expected of it.

RECOGNITION AND AFFILIATION:

A.C. College of Law is recognized by the A.P. State Council of Higher Education. It is affiliated to the Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur and the Bar Council of India, New Delhi.

MINORITY STATUS:

Article – 30 of the Constitution of India guarantees the educational rights of minorities and empowers the minorities of this great country to establish and administer educational Institutions of their own Choice. But as per the G.O. Ms. No. 525, Edn. (Rules) Department, Dated: 21.12.1998, the Minority Certificate issued by the Government of A.P. is a pre-requisite to invoke this right. Hence the Management applied for the grant of Minority Certificate to the Government and the Government of A.P. was pleased to issue Permanent Minority Certificate to our College by its Proceedings No. 626/16343 / M.R.O. A2/2000 (C) dated: 12.04.2000.

PHYSICAL PLANT:

The College is located in a sprawling campus and the structure includes, the Main Block (Annex Buildings), and the Y.V. Rao Block.

LIBRARY:

The College is blessed with a very rich Library having large number of volumes about moiré than 10,000 in various branches of Law and other related disciplines. We subscribe to 20 Journals. I am thankful to Mr. P.C. Jacob, Librarian, Mr. M. Victor Paul and Mrs. Vanaja for maintaining the Library very well.
