Nagarjuna Sagar Power House


AP Genco has started hydel power generation at the State's largest reservoir, Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, and is adding about 810 MW to the grid.

Most major reservoirs in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra are close to full capacity. Srisailam has received 2.86 lakh cusecs and Nagarjuna Sagar has inflows of 2.38 lakh cuses. This has provided relief to thermal power stations and necessitating the release of water.

The Srisailam reservoir has reached full reservoir level of 885 ft and Nagarjuna Sagar has reached 568.67 ft, against full reservoir level of 590 ft.

Taking advantage of the hydel power generation, AP Genco has undertaken the overhaul of 990 MW of thermal power projects.

The peak hydel power generation as on September 3 was 2,860 MW of the installed capacity of 3,829 MW. Contribution from hydel units on September 2, 2011, was 47.82 million units (MU). It was about 55 MU on September 3 and is set to touch 60 MU shortly.

The Jurala hydel power station contributed 2.85 MU, Srisailam 35.35 MU, Nagarjuna Sagar contributed 14.6 MU, Sileru 5.5 MU, TB Dam Power Station 0.99 MU, Pochampad and other power stations contributed 1.62 MU. In all 47.82 mu was generated.

According to a statement, AP Genco has generated 2,416 MU hydel energy during financial year 2011-12, against 1,912 MU in 2010-11.

AP Genco is discharging 69,322 cusecs of water from Srisailam system to Nagarjuna Sagar. AP Genco has supplied 120.84 MU today to the grid.

In another development, AP Transco said in a statement that the restoration of roads after cabling works is the responsibility of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the roads and buildings departments.

The corporation outlined some of the infrastructure projects it has taken up with financial support of Japanese Bank of International Cooperation.
